SMM – Social Media Management
Facebook is a social network service with more than 500 million active users. Facebook gives businesses a platform to communicate with their customers. It allows businesses to upload videos, photos, links and other content to its Facebook page and encourages “fans” of the business to network with one another.
Facebook is also responsible for the “like” button. These buttons appear next to content all over the Internet. Users can click “like” for articles they enjoy, places they frequent or products they’d recommend, etc. This information is then transferred to Facebook for users’ friends and fans to see.
Twitter is a social networking and micro blogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called “tweets.” Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user's profile page. Users may subscribe to other users' tweets—this is known as following and subscribers are known as followers. This is especially useful for businesses to gain feedback from their customers and respond immediately.
All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, compatible external applications (such as for Smartphone), or text (SMS). It is estimated that Twitter has 190 million users, generating 65 million tweets a day and handling over 800,000 search queries per day. It is sometimes described as the "SMS of the Internet."
YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos. YouTube is a useful business tool because companies can upload content such as video blog posts and short original videos (i.e. instructional, product, or how-to videos). Some of the site's other features include Video embedding (users can insert a YouTube video into Facebook and MySpace accounts, blogs, or other websites where anyone can watch them) and subscriptions (users can subscribe to business channels to keep track of new posts and comments.) According to YouTube, people are watching 2 billion videos a day on YouTube and uploading hundreds of thousands of videos daily. In fact, every minute, 24 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube.
A blog is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments or post reviews, and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites. Blogs are beneficial to businesses because they allow businesses to post content on their websites that can then be linked to other Social Media sites. This drives web traffic back to the business’s site. Additionally, and perhaps the most important reason for a business to have a blog, is that regularly updated content improves search engine optimization and ranking. As of August 2010, there were more than 200,000,000 blogs on the Internet. Thirty-four percent of bloggers post opinions about products and brands.
LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking site. It is mainly used for professional networking. It has more than 80 million registered users, spanning more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. The site is available in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. LinkedIn has 21.4 million monthly unique U.S. visitors and 47.6 million globally. LinkedIn is beneficial for businesses to post job offers and network with other business professionals.
